The Dik and Mitzi Anniversary Show is a dazzling 2-hour musical romance that follows a show business love relationship through time. American professional entertainer Dik, "Mr. Vaudeville," falls in love with Mitzi, a French Canadian barmaid. Together they take the audience on a bilingual journey of their story - past, present and future. Theirs is a tale of innocence, connection and miscommunication due to their myopic way of expressing joy, sorrow, and life-changing events. Through song, poetic dance, novelty numbers, slapstick, intricate tap routines, and the support of a talented live band, Dik and Mitzi make the audience believe, like an old black-and-white musical, that love still exists for those who choose to see it.
This two-person variety show with a story begins as the couple is celebrating their 1st-year wedding anniversary. Breaking the fourth wall, Dik and Mitzi recreate several events from the first years of their marriage. The time frame jumps to the 7-year itch, then builds to a crescendo dance that blends into a built-in encore number of their wedding dance as octogenarians some 50 years later.
Filled with many numbers that can stand on their own, the show has been designed to be flexible. It consists of twenty different dance/song/physical comic numbers - ranging from 2 to 7 minutes in length - that may be replaced or changed when desired; comic dialogues in the old vaudeville style tradition move the story. The dialogues can be done in the original bilingual French/English version or English depending on the venue. The physical numbers add up to approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes, and the dialogues add up to approximately 30 minutes.
The show was also designed to fit a variety of budgets. Although originally performed with a 3-piece band and supported by a light a sound team, the show could easily be adapted to a 10-piece band and have guests appearances to make a bigger show. Or, it could be styled around a special event with Dik and Mitzi as the hosts. The possibilities are endless. We look forward to entertaining an audience near you!
